Who is Maine Compost Co?
We’re Josh and Olivia, a Lewiston/Auburn couple passionate about turning your food scraps into healthy nutrient-dense soil. Starting with curbside composting this Earth Day 2025, we’re on a mission to grow to service 10,000+ homes across Maine and beyond to make a lasting impact on our world!

Where do you service?
We will be servicing all Androscoggin Country towns starting on Earth Day 2025. (April 22) Please see “Where We Service” under the residential tab.

How does the pickup work?
On your pick up day we grab your full 5-gallon bucket, swap it for a clean one, and haul it to our Auburn compost partner. No mess, no fuss!

What can I compost?
Compost 101: If you can eat it you can compost it. All food waste is welcome! You will be provided a No Throw list upon sign up for items that are not allowed.

Do I get compost back?
Yep! Upon request, every three months, you can get 5-10 lbs of finished compost—perfect for your garden or plants—straight from your scraps.

Do I need to clean my bucket?
Nope! We swap your full bucket for a clean one each week—cleaning happens at our compost facility, not on you.

Absolutely!

Do you provide liners for buckets?
At this time, we do not provide liners for our compost buckets. This helps us ensure that the compost we collect is as clean and contaminant-free as possible — which is essential for the farms and compost facilities we work with.
