By subscribing to or using the services provided by Maine Compost Co, you agree to the following terms and conditions. These terms are designed to ensure clear expectations, safe practices, and a successful composting partnership between our team and your household.

1. Introduction

Maine Compost Co provides curbside compost pickup services designed to reduce household food waste and promote sustainable soil practices in our local community. These terms apply to all customers using our services.

2. Service Description

We offer weekly or bi-weekly curbside collection of household food scraps. Service includes:

  • One compost bucket with a secure lid (provided upon sign-up)

  • Curbside pickup on your scheduled service day

  • Composting of collected materials at a licensed facility

3. Customer Responsibilities

  • Buckets must be placed curbside by 6:00 AM on your service day and no earlier than 6:00 PM the evening before

  • Buckets must be accessible and visible from the street.

  • Buckets remain the property of Maine Compost Co LLC and must be returned in good condition if service is canceled.

4. Accepted and Prohibited Materials

Accepted Items:

  • Fruit and vegetable scraps, Coffee grounds and filters, Eggshells, Bread, rice, and grains, Plant-based materials (e.g. leaves, wilted flowers), Meat, bones, or dairy

Not Accepted:

  • Liquids, Oils, Plastic, glass, metal, styrofoam or packaging, Pet waste or diapers, Hazardous materials and chemicals, Plastic wrap, twist ties, stickers, rubber bands

Buckets containing non-compostable items may not be collected and may be subject to a contamination fee.

Repeated contamination of buckets may result in service warnings, extra fees, or cancellation of service.

5. Pickup Schedule and Missed Pickups

  • Your service day is outlined in your “Welcome email” when you begin your service.

  • We ask that all buckets be curbside by 6:00 AM to ensure pickup.

  • Missed pickups due to late bucket placement are not eligible for refunds.

  • Service days may be subject to change due to route adjustments, holidays, or other operational needs. We will notify you in advance of any changes via email or text.

  • In the event of weather delays or holidays, we’ll notify you via email or text with updated instructions.

Winter Service Policy
Maine winters can be a factor:

During winter months, please ensure buckets are accessible and not buried in snow. If unsafe conditions prevent collection, we will reschedule or skip service for that week.

6. Payments and Billing

  • All payments are processed through our secure website at time of sign-up.

  • Services are billed on a monthly recurring basis.

  • Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled before the next billing cycle.

  • If a payment fails, we will notify you. Service may be paused until payment is completed.

  • By signing up, you confirm that your address is within our current service area. If you sign up from an address outside our service area, we will notify you by email and issue a full refund. Service availability is subject to change, and we will always keep customers informed of any updates.

7. Cancellations and Refunds

  • You may cancel your subscription at any time by contacting us or through your customer portal.

  • Refunds are not issued for partial months or missed pickups due to customer error.

  • Customers may request a service pause with at least 48 hours’ notice. No credits or refunds for skipped weeks unless arranged in advance.

  • Buckets must be returned within 7 days of cancellation and will be picked up from your residence by Maine Compost Co LLC employee. Failure to return may result in a replacement fee of $15.

8. Referral Program or Promotions

From time to time, Maine Compost Co may offer referral discounts or promotional offers. Terms will be outlined separately and are subject to change.

9. Bucket Ownership

All compost buckets and lids are the property of Maine Compost Co. Customers are responsible for damage beyond normal wear and tear. Lost or unreturned buckets may incur a replacement charge.

10. Privacy Policy

We value your privacy. Your personal information is used only to provide service and communicate with you regarding pickups, schedule changes, promotions, and service updates. We do not share or sell your data.

11. Limitation of Liability

Maine Compost Co is not liable for:

  • Missed pickups due to improper bucket placement

  • Damages or injuries caused by misuse of buckets

  • Contamination of collected materials due to customer error
